In this side event the OECD will present new findings from the recent OECD report “Global Material Resources Outlook to 2060: Economic Drivers and Environmental Consequences”. This ground-breaking work provides global projections of primary and secondary materials use to 2060 in unprecedented detail. The report is produced as part of the OECD RE-CIRCLE project, which aims to identify and quantify the impacts of policies that could support a more circular economy.
The side event will discuss the main insights of the report, highlighting quantitative projections for materials use at the sectoral and regional levels, for 60 different materials (biomass resources, fossil fuels, metals and non-metallic minerals). Explicit attention will be given to the economic drivers of decoupling materials use from economic growth, and the associated environmental consequences. The discussion will also provide insights in how these projections can help policy makers around the world
