Mieke Deschoenmakere works at the European Environment Agency in Copenhagen as project manager on integrated policy analysis, with a particular focus on the circular economy.
She has more than 10 years of work experience on the sustainable management of waste and materials, resource efficiency and circular economy in the public administration both at Belgian/Flemish level (The Public Waste Agency of Flanders and the Flemish Ministry for Environment) and European level (national expert at EEA).
At the Public Waste Agency of Flanders, Mieke led the unit responsible for European and international waste and materials policies and held this role during the Belgian presidency of the EU in 2010.
She graduated as Industrial Engineer (Agriculture/Horticulture) and worked for seven years in the field of organic fertilizers and applied research on field grown vegetables.
