40. How to develop, implement and continuously improve a biowaste strategy in the circular economy?
Separate collection and treatment composting of green waste and separately collected biowaste from households was introduced in Flanders in the 90-ies. Since the mid-2000s, biowaste from feed and food processing is increasingly treated in biogas plants. This is accompanied with quality assurance and smart marketing of compost. This was circular economy, closing the biological cycle, “avant la lettre”.. What can other countries and stakeholders learn from the experiences in Flanders? How to implement or improve the small and large biological cycle? Maybe another scale is more suitable? What is the role of quality assurance in reasoned product use and marketing? How to use the carbon footprint tool in communication? These and more questions will be dealt with during the workshop.
